The decision to seek therapy with a clinical psychologist is sometimes influenced by the need for a comprehensive psychological assessment for a particular condition, such as post traumatic stress disorder, or depression, but it can also be because we notice we've been feeling low for some time, or worried and afraid for some time. Some people notice they have very low self-worth which hinders them in relationships or in their work, some may notice they feel as if they're at a crossroad in their life and can't make decisions about the way forward, and some may feel as if they're stuck in some unhealthy patterns of behaviour or thought, and want help to change the way they live their life.
I work with people making life changes, wanting to recover from depression, anxiety, workplace stress, loss, grief and trauma, difficult or chronic medical conditions, challenging couple or family relationships, and neurodiversity; including diagnostic assessments for autism spectrum and ADHD. I provide supervision to other clinical psychologists, and to allied health professionals.
I'm trained in and use a number of different therapy approaches to inform my work, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Eye Movement Desensitization, and Reprocessing Therapy, and Intensive Short Term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.
I hold contracts with ACC to work with the impact of both sexual abuse and physical injury, although currently I'm not able to take new clients funded by ACC. A helpful website to visit, to find counsellors who are available immediately is: isscprovideravailability.co.nz.
Because of a heavy demand for assessments for autism spectrum condition, I have needed to introduce a waiting list, and currently my next available space is in April.
